Enzyme exfoliants are a special category of exfoliants, they do not act by friction as the mechanical ones (scrub, Washout Gum, etc.) which we discussed in the previous article, but act with an enzymatic action due to the presence of enzymes such as precisely PAPAIN, enzyme proteolytic with selective action, that is capable of binding to the corneal cells in the process of flaking or already damaged, respecting the natural physiology of the skin.
What is enzyme scrub?
The enzymatic products, are used in the dermatological field for the treatment of certain skin disorders such as acne, hyperkeratosis, psoriasis, etc .., but also in cosmetics for the treatment and prevention of the most common skin problems such as: wrinkles, age spots, freckles, stretch marks, xerosis or dry skin, skin blemishes left by pregnancy etc .. the exfoliating products and cosmetics in general are not reserved only to women, men also, notoriously reluctant to beauty care, can benefit from regular of these cosmetics. In fact, men are predisposed to increased sebaceous skin activities, therefore more susceptible to skin impurities at folliculitis and acne than women; Moreover, with the exfoliation of the face, not just your skin may become smoother, but also expose the hairs positioned inside of the hair follicles that will enable a better shave.
What contain enzyme exfoliants?
Inside the enzyme exfoliants, enzymes are selective action PAPAIN the proteolytic type, present in the juice of papaya (Carica papaya), a native tree of Brazil and Mexico. From the functional point of view, it is an analogue of human vegetable pepsin (enzyme secreted by the stomach to digest the dietary protein).
Sources and uses of papain
Papain is obtained by operating the erasures of surface incisions on unripe fruits; the milky juice that comes out is collected in special containers, coagulated for stirring and left to dry in the sun. You are thus obtained a granular or amorphous powder, white or greyish white, containing proteolytic enzymes in varying concentrations. Since ancient times, the proteolytic activity of papain has been used by indigenous people in South America to soften the meat. They not by chance, at a time when the refrigerator was still a dream, in those regions muscle foods were stored by wrapping them carefully in papaya leaves. Today Papain is widely used in the food industry, where it falls - often associated with other plant enzymes such as bromelain and ficin - in preparations to soften the meat and clarify the drinks. These enzymes, however, are unable to penetrate deep, which is why when the steak has a certain thickness manage to only soften the surface. To act, and then perform the keratolytic function, needs a substrate (keratin) or damaged in the process of disintegration of a temperature of about 38 °, and a basic pH. The preparations of enzymes are very specific so it is better to be used in beauty salons, by experts as the beautician. While in everyday life we can choose from a wide range of cosmetic products, especially mechanical exfoliants such as the gel scrub with cucumber and sweet almond, or type the body smoothing cream to apricot kernels, commercially available and easy to use.
